So, one evening I looked around the apartment and I said to my beloved,
“You know something? This place looks tired. Just a bit shabby. Do you agree?”
Of course, he barely looked up from his newspaper but grunted a bit. And in reply said, “Whatever you say dear.”
So, I continued.
“I really feel like I need a new kitchen.” Pause for reaction.
I had to repeat it three times. At last, it spoke “Sounds expensive.”
“Yes,” I replied, but it’s going to add hugely to the value of the apartment. A kitchen is the key selling point, more than anything else.”
“Add value?” he muttered. “OK. Look into it and show me some figures. I’ve got some funds put away for something like this. I knew you’d be looking to re-decorate sometime soon, so investigate and get back to me.”
“Will do my dear!” I rejoindered.
The next month was spent in a hectic round of kitchen showrooms, tile shops, electrical appliance showrooms and I had no idea there were so many of them. Then I sat down with my friendly architect who made me realise that I didn’t have to throw everything out and start again. In fact, if I kept my perfectly good fridge, washing-machine, and dishwasher, then I would be able to afford to splash out on better quality kitchen units, tiles, even taps which cost a fortune.
But what was I going to do with them while the kitchen was being re-done?
I had also decided to knock down a wall in the apartment so I could see this was turning into something major and I would need to find storage solutions for a lot more than my old Electrolux Fridge.
I started to make phone calls and discovered that some of those storage solutions were not for me at all. There were several old cow sheds situated in disused farms, where people saw fit to store their goods. Not for me. By chance a friend who had had very good service, mentioned that I should I contact Ribua and so I did. Best thing I could have done. Within half an hour the Manager rang me, went through all of my storage needs an gave me a very reasonable quote. They would come and get all my furniture at the last possible moment, particularly the kitchen appliances so that we could be using everything until the day the builders actually started knocking the place to pieces. I was amazed at how professionally they wrapped up every piece of furniture, even down to small appliances like my beloved Magimix, and my Kenwood.
The whole reconstruction took six weeks, so my stuff was in storage for about two months altogether. It all ran so smoothly and one of the main elements was that I had found the right storage solution. I rang the week before I needed everything back and it all arrived in perfect condition. What a relief. And what a beautiful apartment we now have.
No question, when you’re redecorating your apartment, make sure you find the right storage solution.
